Being neuroaffirmative is all about recognizing, validating, and celebrating neurodiversity—the wonderful variety in how our brains work. It means supporting individuals with neurodivergent conditions like autism and ADHD by appreciating their unique differences as valuable aspects of our shared humanity, rather than viewing them as issues to be "fixed."
With a neuroaffirmative approach, the aim is to create welcoming spaces where neurodivergent individuals feel respected and empowered to flourish just as they are. This perspective focuses on highlighting strengths, providing helpful accommodations, and fostering understanding, all while challenging the societal norms that can sometimes marginalize or stigmatize neurodivergent people.

In counselling, I prioritize addressing sensory needs by creating a comfortable and accommodating environment tailored to each individual's preferences. This may involve adjusting the lighting, minimizing background noise, taking breaks, moving around the room or incorporating fidget tools and other sensory aids to help you feel at ease. I encourage open communication about your sensory preferences and sensitivities, allowing us to collaborate on strategies that enhance your comfort during your sessions. By being attentive to these needs, I aim to foster a supportive atmosphere where you can engage fully and thrive in our work together.

I provide one complimentary consultation for prospective clients. A counselling consultation is an initial meeting where you can discuss your concerns and goals, and we can address any questions you may have about therapy. It helps determine if I am a good fit for your needs and can set the foundation for your counselling journey.

In an intake counselling session, you can expect a supportive process that sets the foundation for your therapy journey. We’ll begin with introductions to create a comfortable atmosphere, followed by gathering information about your background, personal history, and current challenges.
You’ll have the opportunity to discuss the specific issues that brought you to counselling and identify your goals for therapy. I’ll explain how the counselling process works, including what to expect from our sessions and confidentiality. You’re encouraged to ask any questions you may have, and together, we’ll outline the next steps for moving forward. The intake session is designed to be a safe space for you to express yourself freely while ensuring I have the information needed to help you effectively.
